The Tribunal correctionnel is competent to judge offences for which the Public Prosecutor's Office intends to request a custodial sentence of more than 2 years but not exceeding 10 years.

The Tribunal correctionnel is competent to judge offences for which the Public Prosecutor's Office intends to request a custodial sentence of more than 2 years but not exceeding 10 years.

This is often the case, for example, for serious drug offences, rape, serious assault, theft for financial gain and other offences against property.

Organization

Being a first instance authority, the Tribunal correctionnel sits in a three-judge formation.
